Case Study: Laboratory Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace with Gas Preheating for UK Low-Carbon Materials R&D

Table of Contents

ZYLAB recently supplied a Laboratory 1200°C Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace with a gas pre-heating system to a UK-based innovative company specializing in low-carbon construction materials and waste-derived building technologies.

Laboratory Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace for Low-Carbon Construction Materials Research

The customer is developing new material technologies aimed at supporting carbon reduction and circular use of waste resources in the construction industry. Their laboratory research required a compact thermal processing system capable of providing controlled heating, material movement, and inert gas treatment.

Customer Requirements

The customer was looking for a laboratory-scale rotary rocking tube furnace with the following requirements:

  • Laboratory Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace
  • Maximum temperature up to 1200°C
  • Compatible with inert gas atmosphere
  • Gas pre-heating system for controlled gas introduction
  • Gas flow rate: 0.5–8 L/min
  • Compact design suitable for laboratory R&D
  • Air freight delivery to London, UK

For applications involving controlled-atmosphere thermal processing, stable gas conditions and uniform material movement are important for obtaining reproducible experimental results.

ZYLAB Customized Solution

Based on the customer’s process requirements, ZYLAB supplied a Laboratory Mini Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace together with a dedicated Gas Pre-Heating System.

The rocking tube design allows powders and granular materials to move continuously during heating, promoting more uniform thermal treatment and improving contact between the material and process atmosphere. The furnace is designed for laboratory-scale calcination, heat treatment, high-temperature reactions, and other controlled-atmosphere processes.

Laboratory Mini Rotary Rocking Tube Furnace

  • Maximum temperature: 1200°C
  • Continuous working temperature: 1150°C
  • Heating rate: up to 20°C/min
  • Heating zone: 200 mm
  • Effective volume: 55 mL
  • Temperature accuracy: ±1°C
  • Programmable 7-inch touchscreen controller
  • Up to 30 programmable segments
  • Controlled-atmosphere operation
  • Stainless steel sealing system
  • Compact laboratory footprint

The furnace’s rocking motion provides continuous movement of the sample during thermal processing, helping improve heating uniformity and reaction consistency.

Gas Pre-Heating System

To meet the customer’s requirement for controlled inert-gas processing, the furnace was equipped with a dedicated gas pre-heating system.

High-temperature-resistant stainless steel tubes are used in the preheater to preheat process gases before they enter the furnace tube. It can be configured for different gas types and process requirements, with a maximum preheating temperature of up to 600°C.

This configuration helps provide more controlled gas conditions during high-temperature experiments, particularly where the temperature of the incoming process gas can affect the thermal process.
