Compact Jet Milling System with Filtered Exhaust for Laboratory Powder Processing
Introduction
The ZYLAB Lab Scale Jet Mill with Off-Gas Filter is a compact benchtop system designed for ultrafine powder pulverization, particle size reduction, and deagglomeration of small quantities of high-value materials.
The jet mill uses high-speed compressed air or inert gas to accelerate particles within the grinding chamber. Particle-to-particle impact and shear forces enable efficient powder size reduction without conventional mechanical grinding components.
For applications requiring controlled exhaust, the standard dust collection bag can be replaced with an off-gas filter. The filter outlet can be connected to external ducting, allowing the filtered exhaust stream to be directed outside the glove box or laboratory work area.
This configuration is particularly suitable for research environments where fine powder containment, controlled exhaust, and clean laboratory operation are important.
Applications
The Lab Scale Jet Mill with Off-Gas Filter is suitable for laboratory-scale powder processing and advanced material research, particularly where controlled exhaust or powder containment is required.
Typical applications include:
- Advanced ceramic materials
- Battery cathode and anode materials
- Metal and alloy powders
- Powder metallurgy materials
- Silicon carbide and other hard materials
- High-purity inorganic powders
- Pigments and coating powders
- Specialty and functional powders
- Materials processed inside glove boxes or enclosed work areas
Typical Processes:
- Ultrafine powder pulverization
- Particle size reduction
- Powder deagglomeration
- High-purity powder preparation
- Small-batch powder processing
- Glove box powder processing
- Controlled exhaust powder processing
Features and Benefits
Ultrafine Jet Milling
High-velocity compressed air or inert gas creates particle-to-particle impact and shear forces for efficient powder pulverization and deagglomeration.
Off-Gas Filtration with External Exhaust
The dust collection bag can be replaced by an off-gas filter. The filter outlet is designed to accommodate external ducting, allowing the filtered exhaust to be routed outside the glove box or designated work area.
Suitable for Glove Box Applications
The externally ducted exhaust configuration provides a practical solution when the jet mill is operated inside a glove box or enclosed workspace and the exhaust gas needs to be routed outside the enclosure.
No Mechanical Rotating Grinding Parts
The jet milling process does not rely on conventional rotating grinding components, helping reduce mechanical wear and potential contamination from grinding media.
High-Purity Alumina Ceramic Lining
The grinding chamber features a high-purity fully sintered alumina ceramic lining for excellent wear resistance and reduced risk of material contamination.
Adjustable Vibrating Feeder
The integrated vibrating feeder allows convenient adjustment of the material feed rate for controlled laboratory-scale processing.
Compact Benchtop Design
The compact tabletop configuration minimizes laboratory footprint while providing convenient access for operation, cleaning, and material changeover.
Compressed Air or Inert Gas Operation
Compressed air or inert gas can be selected according to the material and experimental requirements.

How the Lab Scale Jet Mill Works
1. Material Feeding
The material is introduced through the adjustable vibrating feeder.
2. Jet Pulverization
Compressed air or inert gas accelerates the particles inside the grinding chamber. High-speed particle collisions generate impact and shear forces for size reduction.
3. Cyclone Separation
The processed powder enters the cyclone separator, where the product is separated from the gas stream and collected.
4. Off-Gas Filtration
The remaining gas passes through the off-gas filter, where fine particles carried by the exhaust stream are captured.
5. External Exhaust
The filter outlet can be connected to ducting to route the filtered exhaust outside the glove box or designated work area.
